The Gracie Master Cycle is our advanced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program for students who have completed Gracie Combatives (or have equivalent experience) and are ready to go deeper — from blue belt toward black belt.

What Is the Master Cycle?

The Master Cycle is Gracie University's structured advanced curriculum, covering hundreds of techniques organized by position: mount, guard, side control, back control, and standing. Instead of an open-format "just roll" class, every session builds on a specific position with clear technical progressions.

This is the same lineage and teaching method behind Gracie Combatives — just at the next level of depth and detail.

Who Is This Program For?

The Master Cycle is built for students who have completed Gracie Combatives or bring equivalent experience to the mat — generally blue belts and above who want structured, position-by-position training rather than open sparring alone.

New to BJJ? Start with Gracie Combatives first — it's the on-ramp that prepares you for everything taught here.

Class Schedule & Format

Master Cycle classes combine positional drilling, technique breakdowns, and live sparring, with an emphasis on the specific skills that matter in competition and real-world self-defense. Check our class schedule for current Master Cycle times.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a blue belt to join?
We recommend completing Gracie Combatives first, or having equivalent grappling experience, before starting the Master Cycle.

Is there competition training?

Can I train Combatives and Master Cycle at the same time?
Many students attend both — Combatives to reinforce fundamentals, and Master Cycle to build advanced skills.
